#MOOD: The Black Girl Arts Show

Last weekend, I walked into a warehouse in Brooklyn and found myself completely surrounded by color, texture, movement, and magic. The Black Girl Art Show wasn’t just an event. It was a love letter to black women and a reminder of how much power there is in telling our stories the way only we can.

More than 200 artists filled the room with original paintings, sculpture, mixed media work, photography, and jewelry. Some were seasoned pros, others were showing for the first time, but every single piece had a pulse. And the message was clear: we’re not waiting for permission to take up space.

The Black Girl Art show is part of a national movement created by Joshua Love, a cultural visionary from Philadelphia who launched it (and its sibling show, Black Boy Art Show) in Atlanta back in 2019. What began as a gathering of 15 artists has now become a touring celebration across more than 25 cities—creating stages for Black artists to thrive and shine.

“This show is a stage for Black excellence,” Love says. “If I don’t see a door, I’ll build one.”

Joshua’s story is just as powerful as the shows he curates. After struggling with a severe stutter for most of his childhood, he found healing through theater and art.

“Art gives you a picture of your potential,” he shared. “It’s healing you in ways you can’t even see.”

I saw so many examples of this truth in action. The work wasn’t just beautiful, it gave reflected the complexity of the Black experience in America. Afrofuturism, family history, mental health, joy, rage, softness, survival—all of it was represented.

“Welcome home,” is the message Love wants every guest to feel when they step into these shows.

And that’s exactly how it felt. At PR Peach, I’m always thinking about storytelling—how to help brands and communities show up with more clarity, confidence, and culture. This show reminded me that Black women have always been master storytellers. Through brush strokes, beads, braids, and bold lines. We’ve always been the blueprint.

If you get the chance to attend The Black Girl Art Show in your city, go. Don’t just go—show up with your whole self. Support the artists. Buy the art. Wear your loudest outfit. Catch a vibe. I promise, you will walk away more inspired to keep creating your own masterpiece.
